Preston North End 2007-2008 Discussion
The last minute kids. !!!

The game ended as I had wished (although the referee cut it very fine - 3 1/2 minutes into the allotted 2).
We lost the match but not our reputation and were not `rolled over` by Pompey, as seen by millions of Sky viewers.
We needed a good cup run - which we had, now it`s time to give 100% concentration to the the only thing that matters - Championship survival.
Alan Irvine things it will `go to the wire`, I agree that it won`t be sorted before Easter.

Barnsley v. Chelsea, Jim. They are over the moon here for such a plum tie - and talk about confidence - Chelsea don`t need to bother coming, they don`t stand a chance.

We can only hope, then.

William, A plumb indeed and not beyond the bounds of credibility that Barnsley can do it again. fingers crossed for them.
In our case, I REALLY am pleased that the cup is behind us - there are far more important battles ahead.

Man. Utd. v Preston North End. Oh sorry, they got beat didn't they. Man. Utd. v Portsmouth. But what a fat check they will miss out on by conceding that OWN GOAL. Oh my God. They could have bought Nugent back with that check.

You know things aren't going your way when you draw against the league leaders away from home and drop into the relegation zone.
So now we are a point behind Sheff. Wed. who have a game in hand and a better goal difference which at this stage is as good as a point.
It's going to take a minor miracle to stay up.
Regardless of the old saying that they are better off out of the cup so they can concentrate on the league, a win against Portsmouth last week would have put the team in a bouyant mood, specially had they received the draw v Manchester United in the 6th round.
I'd like to know why Irvine signs players then doesn't play them. Perhaps it's because he doesn't know how to spell the new goalie's name ??? [Wink]

I would say that today was a point earned and one that could prove valuable at the end of the season. Watford and the rest of the league would have expected a home win there so Preston should be glad about that.

There are a few so called North Enders on these pages that have no idea about which are the important games to win, lose, and tie.A point at watford in reality did them not one bit of good, oh yes, they got a point alright but what did it do for them....take a look at the table before they got that point and then talk a look at the table after they got that point....they actually dropped down one full place into the relegation zone.
Prestons problem is not that they can't get a few points from the league leaders, they actally beat West Brom a few weeks ago, big deal, they are still in the relegation zone.
Try to understand this...North End needed to beat the other lousy teams that are also in the relegation zone. Those games are considered six point games if you can win them....three for winning and the three that the other lousy team didn't get.
Just think about these North End v the lousy teams around them results....Colchester, beat PNE home and away, six points to Colchester, zero points to PNE, Scunthorpe, beat PNE home and away, six points to Scunny, zero points to PNE, Sheff Wed, three points each, Leicester, tied at Deepdale, one point each, still to play at Leicester.....
Soooooo, in a nut shell, if North End had done the double over the two bottom
teams rather than lose them, North End would now be pushing for a play off spot. One point from Watford is almost useless, it was twelve points from the two worste teams in the league that they needed.
Did you receive that loud and clear ? Didn't sink in though did it ?
Still, Newcastle 1 - 5 Manchester United
Wouldn't you think with all the talent that Manchester United have they would loan North End another budding Beckham.
Over and out. [Big Grin][Big Grin][Big Grin]
PS: Every game that Preston have left to play is against a team that is presently above them. Not a happy thought is it
