Preston North End 2007-2008 Discussion
At least Preston have had some of the biggest names in football playing for them... Not just Tom Finney, which you can't say for some of our other Lancashire teams. As the famous advert said "Who are they?" "Exactly!"

Even having the self proclaimed best player in the world doesn't guarantee you the premiership, judging by Man u's performance the other day.

But on a serious note (not) why don't we let the yanks run football? We could have time-outs, players could play in zones, subs could come onto the pitch for set pieces and games should be 15 mins a quarter. A game of football could last all day with only an hours play. Wouldn't that be exciting, watching all those people standing around on the pitch wondering what to do?

God bless America, is there anything else in the world that the yanks can screw up?

But seriously, I think football is ok as it is but the premiership should stop trying to sell itself and concentrate on nurturing good old English talent, there's plenty of it about.

For a moment there Martin I thought I was going to have to report you to the 'dubious friends committee' as I have done with Spitfire after he knowingly tried to trick me into thinking he was being civil toward me. Just last week it was too.But then I realized you too enjoy a bit of tongue in cheek humor.BTW, do you have a few days off work ? I'd like to discuss the last test match with you. We'll try to avoid talking about the lunch and tea breaks, and we won't mention the poor darling's when they had to dash off the field because rain stopped play, after all, we wouldn't want then getting their death of cold would we now.Talking about cricket, and isn't that some sort of small insect, I think the Yanks would play the game if it was of a more manly name, locust perhaps, cricket sounds so feminine, and then again, you can't really expect real men to play in positions such as, silly mid off, and long leg, and stumper, I mean stumper sound like someone who puts your cigarette butt out, and bowler, isn't that some comical hat that the gentry wear in the city. You know what I mean don't you. You just don't realize all this until it's pointed out to you eh [?] Have a nice day. [Smile][Smile]
Oh yeah, will someone give TonyL a call and remind him that Tom isn't playing any longer. The last game I saw at Deepdale was just a few months ago, a classic, PNE 1 - 2 Morecambe [:p][:o)][:p]
The wife just questioned me about that scoreline, said it was impossible. I got thinking about it myself and I just had to Google that score to make sure I wasn't mistaken...but that is right....
PNE 1 - 2 Morecambe And to make matters worse, North end play Portsmouth on Sunday....Portsmouth are 68 places above Morecambe but good luck to 'em.

Jim; You shouldn't talk about the Spice Girls
that way.
And now that the Black Bull has closed down, do you do your hob knobing with the local postman in the Dunkirk Hall ? [Wink][Wink][Wink]

Exactly David.(see my profile)

I was taking the p1ss out of the Nobenders.
They live in the past, have severe delusions of grandeur and are very jealous of their local rivals and betters, because their team are the rubbing rags of football.

I took a look at your profile Tony. I like Whittle le Woods, and I can't blame you for watching the Rovers, at least you get some good visitingteams and players to watch. I usually go to watch the Rovers too if they are playing when I'm over there. I saw the Rovers v Man Utd in the pouring rain last season and earlier this season I was there for the v Arsenal match.
I very much doubt that the Rovers could win the Prem again but at least they are in the top flight, I hope they can stay there.
I have a Preston friend who lives opposite the house where Jack (money) Walker lived but on the opposite side of the street, his house overlooks Blackburn, while Jack's looks toward Preston. Anyway my friend is an avid PNE supporter (Preston born), (and a Man Utd scout), I just want you to know that he Ewood park is visible from his high perch but he says once the lights at Ewood come on...he draws the blinds.. I didn't realise that rovers supporters carried such big chips on their shoulders. Thanks for demonstrating it so well.

Noel, I`m not one to gloat - but who would have thought lowly Barnsley would win over the mighty Liverpool, and at Anfield. We thought a draw might happen so that the town team would gain from a re-play at home, but what awaits us on Monday?

Congrats William - a well earned result.

I watched the liverpool game this morning and while I don,t think Barnsley were the best team they certainly put the most effort into the game. They never let Liverpool settle, they blocked everything that was thrown at them and had some players who gave Liverpool lots of problems, in the end, a great cup tie. The last time I was at Anfield was a cup game against Stanley in 53/4 I think. I also watched the United game, only one team turned up there, a complete trouncing.

Let us hope it's North End's turn to be the giant killer. Think 1964.
the game is live here in California at 8:00am.
Well done Barnsley, I watched the game too. How they held out I'll never know, the goalie had the game of his life, brilliant, and a great last minute goal.
Arsenal ? Where were they ?
