Preston North End 2007-2008 Discussion
#41
That's a tough one Jim, there is only a handful of refs around that time I can remember and they were all famous. Arthur Ellis of course did It's A Knockout with Eddie Wareing. Dennis Howell reffed in the sixties and became Sports Minister later in the Labour Government of Harold Wilson , he was a bit portly and Ken Aston who I think was tall and lanky and thin on top, like so many referees seem to be. He incidentally came up with the idea of the red and yellow cards and the substitutes board.

What did I tell you !!!!! [Tongue] I said we would be out of the bottom three BEFORE Christmas. Are there going to be better days ahead?
Irvine is going to be a great manager for us, I believe.

Two wins away on the bounce. I must admit it's getting better ( as the Beatles once sang)
I've got tickets for the next two home games, Scunthorpe on Boxing Day and Cardiff on the 30th. I'll see how the side play then compared to under Paul Simpson.

Well I went to the game today and PNE were awful. No passion no commitment, struggled to break through mighty Scunthorpe's defence and could have lost by more than the 1 goal. If I had to pick a man of the match it would be Lonerghan the goalkeeper. The rest were dreadful.

Not this season Jim, I'm beginning to wonder if they would pay me to stay away.

Good prediction Spitfire, pity it didn't last a tad longer. Is Boxing Day considered a part of Christmas ?? It's unheard of here.

I'm at the North End v Cardiff game tomorrow, I shall be astonished if we win after what I saw against Scunthorpe. Cardiff have players such as Hasselbaink on the subs bench unable to get a start, and Peter Whittingham who has one o the hardest shots in the game, not to mention Robbie Fowler.
