Preston North End 2007-2008 Discussion
#11
This was by far the worst I have seen North End in years,

The long ball tactics aren't working, they haven't even scored since the season started.

Bottom of the league

A message for Paul Simpson, sung in the style of Andrew Loyd Weber.

I`ve just been reading all the letters on the LEP site calling for Simpsons head and I`m afraid that I tend to agree with most of them. I feel that the Championship is one step too high for him at the moment.
Another worrying aspect is his relationship to those under him. This became apparent last year when one of the long serving back-room staff (a relative of a friend - so I know it`s true) left the club he loves because he couldn`t work under him. That came after weathering all the ups and downs over many years. I think he should leave and let that lame duck (Shaw) carry his bags for him.

Tend to agree with you Jim, if Shaw had had a bit more nause we'd have gone up with Billy Davies, but he wouldn't sanction any purchases in the January "window". Same again this season under Simpson though you have to wonder whether the team were still playing under Billy Davies' style up to Xmas when they were up at the top, then came the big boot long ball style and the rest is history.
Now Simpson wants Shaw and the board to pay off the so called "bad apples". If I were Shaw I would be thinking it's going to be cheaper to pay Simpson off, and probably more beneficial in the long run. I'll give him 3 more games and i there's no improvement the supporters will vote with their feet, and the ones who go on will be going on to demonstrate against the management.

When money is scarce, it`s a fine line between `speculating to accumulate` and doing a Leeds and finding yourself in administeration. Shaw kept the boat steady, whilst never having the nerve for the final push.

Ah well, he's resigning the chairmanship, let's see if any one with a bit more ambition will step forward.

Alexandra is now a Claret. Who`s going to take the penalties now? That`s always assuming we ever get into the opponents area - which we havn`t done too much of this season.
On paper (now that Gallaghar has signed)we look like quite a good squad. All we need now is a manager with a bit of tactical and motivational skill and who knows????????

Alexander has been a teriffic player for North End. When did they last have a full Scottish International player? O'Neil apart.

Cunningham?
I watched the game on Sky and thought the style of play was 3rd division stuff with the ball above head height for much of the time, definitely not good football. In the 10 minutes or so he was allowed Gallagher looked a class player. North End's biggest attacking threats were from Agyemang who was caught ofside far too often, if he can judge where the defensive line is then he would become an even bigger threat. There again asking him to think could be a problem.
I don't want to watch anymore of this type of football even if it produces a winning side, which I very much doubt.

Can I just say that I am shocked and devastated at the loss of Alexander to Burnley. Yes, it looks a reasonable squad on paper but I have a real sick feeling in the pit of my stomach. We have been lucky in recent years with the choice of relatively young and ambitious managers who really want to make their mark but, for me, Simpson is out of his depth and not ready for a club like PNE. I think we will be fighting relegation this season unless something drastic happens. I would love to be proved wrong as I love PNE and I don't want either my club or myself to suffer as we have in the past. You have to be made of strong stuff to be a Northender that's for sure!!

Well it looks like the sale of Alexander has cost Paul Simpson his job. With him the team would probably have got 5 points more from penalties he would have scored ( only missed 1 out of 50 for PNE since he left 4 out of 5 have been missed).
There is an emergency board meeting on Monday when I think he will be asked to step down or be sacked. Who would we want as next manager?

Noel, When he goes (long overdue in my opinion) there will be loud sighs of relieve in many quarters. I have been told, by an impeccable source, that his style behind the scenes left a great deal to be desired and the current demorolised situation was forecast several months ago.
As for who? - I`m not sure. Jewell perhaps? ANYONE with an ounce of tactical nous would be a 100% improvement.
