I thought he was a bit 'short' (no pun intended), when he was caught driving without insurance but this takes the cake.[8)]

Maybe if he'd shown her the size of his pay packet rather than the size of his "tackle" as they call it he'd have had a bit more luck[:I]
Noel; Other than the paycheck, don't you think he was better off 'playing' for Preston and occasionally England, than sitting on the bench somewhere wondering what went wrong.
It was quite obvious to me that although he was a winner in the Championship, he was never going to hold a place in any Premiership team. Better a big fish in a little pond than a little fish in a big pond.
I learned that lesson in my playing days. I was considered a 'good player' in the Preston and District Leagues, I was picked as the 'striker', (centre forward in those days), for the Preston and District All Star team back in 1960. I moved up to the Lancashire Combination with both Lytham and Lancaster but struggled to get a game, and there were no sub's in those days so I often found myself benchwarming rather than playing. I moved down to the West Lancs League and was playing again. It's amazing how much better the players are in just a little higher league...and Nugent has found that out the hard way.

I agree with you David. He was never really good enough to play for England and only got his chance because half the regular strikers were injured or of form and he was looking very good at Championship level. Never worth £6 million. I guess he regrets leaving North End from a playing point of view but probably cheers up when he opens his pay cheque.
