Here's a good idea.
Freecycle is made up of many individual groups. It's a grassroots and entirely nonprofit movement of people who are giving (& getting) stuff for free in their own towns.
I've had a look at Lancashire and there is a Chorley and a Preston group. You can choose to have an email everytime someone posts an offer of something they are giving away. I've joined the London group so have opted for a daily digest.

There is the option of starting your own freecycle group in Leyland as there isn't one at the moment...
