Anacortes is predominantly a retiree community, particularly the Skyline neighourhood where we live. A New Year's Eve get together was arranged at the clubhouse and about 50 folks showed up around 7:00 pm. At about 8:50, the TV was turned on, tuned to a cable channel showing the New York Times Square celebrations in real time. At 8:55, the champagne bottles were opened and we toasted the New Year as the Waterford Crystal ball in Times Square descended to formally announce 2009. That 3-hour time difference can be really handy! The party was over by 9:15 and we were all home before 10:00! Living in the Western time zone definitely has its advantages when you're older! Best wishes to all forum participants for a better year in 2009 than 2008 was. Frank and Eileen Damp - shelaghwatkins - 02-Jan-2009 Happy New Year everyone and best wishes for 2009! You have all been very supportive since I joined the forum and I appreciate it very much indeed. You are the best! ~Shelagh |
