There is a lot of questioning about the manager's style of play and management Jim, understandably so when results have gone so badly wrong recently. The team seems to have reverted to the long ball which is not a style we are good at. Nugent is good no question and he wil score many more goals when he has a mid-field style of play behind him. At the moment the way they seem to score is through balls to Ormerod who is a very fast clinical striker.
Jarrett was booted out as was Stock two very good midfielders and we were left with Sedgwick who couldn't overtake a sleeping tortoise and Mackenna who has been carrying an injury all season. He brought inferior players in, Ricketts ex Bolton Wanderers but recently released by Southend ( says a lot) Neil Mellor who was recovering from injury and still has not reached full fitness, Pergl who quite frankly is a disaster and Dichio has been allowed to leave early to play in Toronto but having said that has not been picked even as sub recently even though he is a quality player who holds the side together.

Jim this is a typical comment from a supporter extracted from the PNE forum.
However, Simpson has destroyed a very good championship squad that Billy Davies created. Simpson is actually taking us down. 3 points out of 24 is it?? disgusting. I said in January/February that we would not get to the play-offs, because of the way we play, defend, don't attack and lump the ball up field. He is tactically inept

It isn't even that were playing well and being unlucky. I've seen better organised teams in the park and SIMPSON has not taken any of the blame!

The fact that we have now lost 6 out of 7, is added on to the fact that we were in a poor run of form before that, the only difference being we managed to scrap a few wins.

Simpson, please please leave this club before you destroy it. You have already taken us back 2 years, get out before you do more damage

It`s hard to argue with that kind of reasoning, Noel and I can`t think of any recent run of bad results to equal that of PNE.
There is always an outside possibility that we MAY beat Brum and some other results go in our favour, however - I`m not holding my breath.

Well done Blackpool

Well, that`s another Saturday afternoon when I shan`t venture into Preston for shopping etc.
(PS I sincerely hope and pray that we are not playing West Brom next year).

I won't be shopping in the city either that day Jim, like all true supporters I'll be on the ground. And I think most North Enders would want to be playing West Brom, but personally I hope Billy gets the Rams promoted, he deserves it, maybe one day the Man U manager? He's got so much in common with Fergie.

Noel, I don`t know how I missed the link you posted (May `02) but I`ve just read it through and found it to be absolutely fasinating. Thanks a lot for it. By sheer chance the artical ended in the year that I had my first season ticket bought for me (1946) and I can well remember seeing many of the players mentioned in the last few paragraphs. Thanks again.

A pleasure Jim. I've deleted the "good luck to Yeovil" photo by the way ( which anyone who knows me will know was pure tongue in cheek) as it was distorting the text boxes.
